Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of skid steer loader operations without attachments including:

conducting prestart checks prior to commencing operations and shutdown procedures on completion of operations

carrying out vehicle refuelling requirements and procedures

working safely around other machines and personnel

demonstrates completion of conducting skid steer loader operations without attachments that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

driving, manoeuvring and operating skid steer loader smoothly, adjusting operations for the work environment conditions

performing skid steer loading tasks which must include a minimum of one (1) of the following on each occasion:

stripping/spreading topsoil and materials

backfilling

loading vehicles

excavations

mixing materials

site clean up

compacting

truck excavation

lifting and carrying materials

cutting batters and benches

using communication systems to confirm activity, correct path and process to safely move and transport load

positioning skid steer loader ensuring stability in operations

loading materials

shifting and placing materials

loading and unloading skid steer loader from float/trailer

park up, shut down and prepare machine for maintenance


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when conducting skid steer loader operations without attachments:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

driving and operating equipment

materials handling using safety data sheets

environmental protection

ground conditions

isolation procedures

equipment processes, technical capability and limitations

fire/accident/emergency

signs of operator fatigue and how it should be managed

site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

project quality requirements

calculating safe working loads

operational, maintenance and basic diagnostics

housekeeping activities
